Obituary for Ronald John O'Connor

O’CONNOR, RONALD JOHN, age 80, of Springfield passed away October 24th in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born in Altoona PA on February 10th, 1938, the son of the late Marie and Donald O’Connor.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and Ohio National Guard for 20 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he owned a water conditioning company in Xenia Ohio. He then went to work for ITT educational services and was transferred to New England area for 10 years. He was president of the Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Springfield Regional Medical Center in the early 2000’s. He was president of the Springfield Optimist Club. He had an 18 piece dance band, The Sentimentalist. He was a member of the 44th OVI Civil War band of Springfield and the FTD Sauerkraut band of WPAFB.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years Martha A. O’Connor; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Robert Flood of Colorado; a son Donald L. O’Connor of Enon; great granddaughter Dakota and Nicholas Tompkins of Nebraska and a great great grandson, Nathanial; two brothers: James ( Linda) O’Connor of Delaware and Robert M. O’Connor; two sisters: Ann M. O’Conner and Josie Tweed and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas J. O’Connor.

There will be no funeral services or visitation as he has donated his body to Wright State University School of Medicine. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Community Mercy Hospice, 100 W.
