Elwood L. Sindle, 81, of Springfield, died Sunday April 22, 2012 in Vancrest of Urbana. He was born March 3, 1931in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the Charles and Mable (Matlack) Sindle.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded three bronze stars. He retired from the Champion Company after twenty-nine years. He was the co-owner and operator of Woody's Karaoke. Elwood was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Champion Aerie #397, Union Club and Social Club. Elwood enjoyed singing, wood working and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Nancy C. (Brumfield) Sindle; two daughters, Linda Baer and SanDee Coppess; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lee "Rusty" and Nancy Sindle and Jeff Sindle all of Springfield; grandchildren, Tracy (Craig) East, Andrea Coppess, Chad (Jen) Eubanks, Shane (Sherry) Sindle, Rusty (Vanessa) Sindle, Elisabeth Sindle and Caleb Sindle; great-grandchildren, Chase Coppess, Shelby Ulmer, Kirstein Gross, Ashley Eubanks, Austin Eubanks, Adam Eubanks, Todd Sindle, Madison Sindle, Tyler Sindle, Dylan Sindle, Jenna Sindle and Katie Sindle and great great-grandson, Brody Gross. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and six sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.
Burial with military honors will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
