Obituary for Robert F. Shirley

Robert F. Shirley, 89, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, in his home. He was born on August 29, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Jack G. and Frances H. (Engelhardt) Shirley.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Schreiber) Shirley, one son Robert S. Shirley of South Carolina, one granddaughter, Sara E. Shirley of South Carolina, sister-in-law, Carol Brown of Westville, brother-in-law, Donald Baker of Medina, Ohio, many nieces and nephews and his special friend Jack Scipel of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jane Baker. Bob worked at Crowell Collier until it closed.

Later he worked at Yellow Springs Instrument company for 35 years, retiring in January of 1992. He received a BS in Business Administration from Wittenberg University in 1982. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bob was a member of Fifth Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, he was active in the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department, multiple Reid Park Golf Leagues, the former Overbrook Swim Club, and St. Anthony Lodge F&AM. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with United Senior Services.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Carol Gesalman officiating.
