Obituary for Mary Etta Wagner

Mary Etta Wagner, 96, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017. She was born on November 8, 1920, in Steubenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Lydia (Sims) Wray. She graduated from Springfield High School class of 1938, Wittenberg University class of 1942 and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton in Counseling. Mary taught for the Springfield City Schools for 27 years at Bushnell and Horace Mann Elementary Schools. Mary was the longest standing member at High St. United Methodist Church with 87 years of faithful stewardship. She always remembered her former students by name and was known to send cards of encouragement for notable accomplishments. She loved spending time with her family for they were her joy.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life her husband Raymond in 1968 and never remarried. Mary is survived by her three children: Margaret Crosbie of Springfield, Richard (Hillary) Wagner of Centerville, and Barbara (Kevin) Ferguson of Tipp City; grandchildren: Brian Lebaroff (Kathy Logel), Kristen (Nick) Lombardo, Matthew Crosbie (Rachelle Staats), Katherine (Drew) Waymire, and Sean Ferguson (Miranda Graham); two great grandchildren: Natalie and Anthony Lombardo; several nieces and nephews, and faithful neighbor and friend, Gayle Campbell. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers, and son-in-law, Tom Crosbie.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday the 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the High St. United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., Springfield. Burial will follow at the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the High St. United Methodist Church.
