Obituary for Marilyn M Blackburn

MARILYN M. BLACKBURN, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday morning, June 4, 2017 following several months of failing health. She was born in Springfield on February 23, 1943, the daughter of the late William and Rosemary (Rodgers) Paxson. Marilyn retired from Assurant Group (previously Norwest and Kissell Company) following 40 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the North Hills Church of God, where she served as secretary for several years. An active volunteer at United Senior Services, Marilyn loved playing chair volleyball several times a week. Her proudest achievement was caring for her beloved husband, David, for 12 years following an illness that left him in need of constant care.

She is survived by two children, Denise (Jefferson) Blackburn-Smith of Centerburg, Ohio and Brett (Margie) Blackburn of Springfield; a brother, William Paxson (Jan Knox) of Springfield; grandchildren, Rosemary (Tim) Kellison of Atlanta, GA, Gaelan (Dana) Shively of Columbus, Erin Blackburn-Smith (Zach Tyler) of Atlanta, Jennifer (Mark) Allen of Greenfield, IN, Erik Blackburn of Springfield, Johnny Duvall of Springfield, and Kristy (Harlie) Ray of Springfield; great grandchildren, David Allen, Jamie Horne and Wyatt Allen of Indiana and Emilee Wilson and Cole Ray of Springfield; several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Carol (Steve) Herring; and her dear friends at North Hills Church of God.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Marilyn’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Russ Dickerson officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Senior Services, 125 W. Main St., Springfield, OH 45502 or North Hills Church of God Building Fund, 2950 Moorefield, Rd., Springfield, OH 45502.
