Obituary for Kenneth R. Parish

KENNETH R. PARISH, 75, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Good Shepherd Village, surrounded by his family. He was born in Springfield on September 6, 1941, the son of the late John and Virginia (Barnhart) Parish. Kenny attended Shawnee High School. He worked at Parish Coal & Feed for 10 years. He took an apprenticeship with Lagonda Tool and became a state certified tool & die maker. Kenny worked for Lagonda Tool for 35 years and later retired from Remington Steel. He enjoyed showing his classic ’56 Chevy at cars shows and attending the country music concerts at the Kuss Center.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice (Wise), whom he married on July 2, 1960; three sons, Douglas (Lesa) , David, and Stephen (Stephanie); three granddaughters, Rachael (Matt) Everhart, Kaitie Thomas and Audrey Parish; a sister, Judy Pearson; a nephew, David Pearson; an aunt, Emily Smith; and his beloved dog, Molly. Alzheimer’s Disease took Kenny from his family way too soon! The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Good Shepherd Village for helping our Dad through the final six months of his journey.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME as well as one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.
