Obituary for John L. Miller

John L. Miller, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 18, 1932, in Louisa, Kentucky, the son of the late Haney and Nellie (Castle) Miller. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. John later retired as a US Postal Carrier in 1994 and he enjoyed playing golf, traveling to visit family and spending time with his grandchildren. John was also a known Civil War history buff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lois Miller in 2012, his son Greg in 1980, three sisters: Nora Lee McCarty, Caroline Miller and Connie Garner. He is survived by his four children: Trudy L. Miller of Urbana, Jeff Miller of Springfield, Julie (Jon) Selken of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Shelley (James) Lipe of Salinas, California; seven grandchildren: Melanie, Kayleigh, Sean, Wes, Machelle, Katherine and Stephen; six siblings: Paul (Leilany) Miller, Bill (Kay) Miller, Pauline (James) McNary, Pearline Zalewa, Ruth Tomkovich and David (Janet) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 5-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday the 8th at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bob Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery.
