Obituary for Elberta L. Kinsler

ELBERTA L. “BERT” (SCHREIBER) KINSLER, 88, of Springfield, passed away in her home with her family by her side on Saturday morning, February 17, 2018 following a brief battle with cancer. She was born in New Albany, Indiana on July 10, 1929, the daughter of the late Kennard and Creo M. (McClellan) Schreiber. She graduated in 1947 from Springfield High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jack, in 1950.

Elberta worked as a secretary at Crowell Collier, Mast Foos, and Buckeye Incubator, and retired from Community Hospital after 17 years of service as a physician’s medical education coordinator at Community Hospital. She was a charter member of Northside Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and she has been a member of the Springfield Church of Christ since 1997. For almost 62 years, Elberta was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Elberta dedicated her life to her family and actively participated in her children’s lives. Happy summers were spent at Sunnyland’s Overbrook Pool, swimming and picnicking with her children. She was a Brownie leader, and she encouraged her children’s participation in 4-H, baton twirling, music lessons, water ballet, diving lessons, and any other activity to enrich the lives of her children. The family enjoyed camping, and when the children were grown, Elberta and Jack made good memories boating and camping at Indian Lake. Family and friends will always remember the poetry Elberta wrote for special occasions.

Elberta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ivan, Richard and her twin, Elbert; and a sister, Mary Toland. She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Jack Kinsler and their four children, Toni (Bill) Helfrich of Springfield, Randy Kinsler (Chris) of Morehead, Kentucky, Kimberly (Rick) Shay of Cincinnati and Pamela Mayle of Beavercreek. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Matthew Ridenour, Wendy Dunne, Brandon Ridenour, Marissa Tregoning, Marci Taylor, Laura Funderburg, and Chelsea Maynard; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Miller.

Pastor Bill Warax will preside at Bert’s funeral service which will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Springfield Church of Christ, 1620 Buck Creek Lane. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
