Obituary for Edward G. Koepnick

EDWARD GORDON KOEPNICK, 92, of Springfield went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in Oakwood Village. He was born November 20, 1925 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Edward Koepnick and Alice (Thompson) Porter. He resided in Dayton, Ohio until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served our country proudly during World War II. After his time in the Navy, he married the love of his life in 1945 Betty Mae (Pearson) Koepnick and they were married for 61 happy years. Ed graduated from UC with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and then went on to work at WPAFB. He was the first of two civilians to be accepted in the AFIT Program and received his master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1964 he was honored with a Sloan Fellowship and graduated with a master’s degree in Industrial Management from MIT. He moved to Enon and lived there for 41 years where he was on the counsel for 21 years and a faithful member of Enon United Methodist Church for many years. After retirement, Ed and Betty led a spiritual fulfilled life ministering to many people.

Survivors include one daughter, Marcia (Orva) Detrick; four sons, James (Sandie), Mark (Diane), Matthew (Tammy) and John (Peri) Koepnick; 13 grandchildren, James, Natalie, Deborah, Kenny, Ryan, Emily, Aaron, Sara, Clint, Rex, Josh, Alan and Amber; eight great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Adrian, Alyssa, Faeryn, Susanna, Sebastian, Gus and Opal and special friend, Marge Boggs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2006.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the Northridge United Methodist Church where he was a member for many years. A celebration of Ed’s life will begin at 11:00 am in the church with Reverend Kenneth Woode officiating.
