Obituary for Donald L. Whitehead

DONALD L. WHITEHEAD, 82, of Akron, Ohio and formerly of Springfield went home to be with his Lord and Savior December 1, 2017. He was born October 20, 1935 to the late Alec and Sarah (Roberts) Whitehead.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois (Metts), sister, Virginia Cope, five brothers-in-law, sister-in-law and daughter-in-law. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise; his children, Donald (Melaine) of Springfield, Keith (Michele) of Southgate, Kentucky, Lorena Ricca of Henrico, Virginia, Ernest, and Ruth (Matt) Wilson all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters; two brothers and families.

Don served our country as a member of the United States Air Force and also served in the Vietnam War. Retiring in 1982, He retired from Cooper Energy Services 1998. He served in many capacities in the church. He enjoyed his family, organizing his belongings, yard work, working puzzles, playing games, horseshoes, watching NASCAR, traveling and fishing.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 5-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am in the Northside Baptist Church, 2425 Derr Rd, Springfield with Pastor Kirk Ross officiating.

Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
