Obituary for Charles Oram Outram

Charles O. “Chuck” Outram, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, in his home. He was born on July 10, 1932, in Urbana, Ohio, the oldest son of Oram and Louise (Wingfield) Outram. Charles served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Wright Patterson AFB January 1st, 1988, after 32 years of service in the Air Transportation Field serving as the Air Freight Cargo Terminal Manager during the Vietnam War for eleven years and in management of the Air Force Logistics Airlift System (LOGAIR) for fourteen years. He then worked 10 years for Southern Air Transport, Inc. as a Contract Services Representative traveling to many locations worldwide to perform his cargo logistics responsibilities. He worked fourteen years for Foreman Blair Dealership as a driver. He enjoyed his total working career, golf, and taking care of his lawn and flowers along with his wife, Nellie.

He loved his family and friends more than anything, and loved being a part of family functions of his immediate family and his wife’s family. He was a member of the Central/Faith United Methodist Church 1956 to 2012 where he served on many committees, attended the Homebuilders Sunday School Class and then transferred to Northridge United Methodist Church in 2012 until present, a member of the Springfield Kiwanis, Mechanicsburg Lodge No. 0113, Scottish Rite Lodge, Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shriners of Dayton, and the Springfield Clark County Shrine Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: James T. Outram, Billie L. Outram, and Max A. Outram. Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nellie, three daughters and sons-in-law: Pamela Jean and George Chandler, Kimberly Ann and John Barney, Michele Lynn and Joe Hamilton, and one son, Kelly Anderson Outram and wife Karen, one sister-in-law, wife of Max, Susan, seven grandchildren: Kristin (Jason) Hays, Matthew (Cheryl) Thompson, Nicole (Zachary) Johnson, Jessica (Correy) Conrad, Jared Outram, Kelsey Outram and Grant Outram; ten great grandchildren: Christopher and Zackery (twins), Branden, Lexi, Logan and Peyton (twins), Camden and Landon (twins), Bentley and Jayden, several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 12th from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME with a celebration of his life will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Ken Woode from the Northridge United Methodist Church will be officiating the service. Burial will follow with military honors in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Walk to Defeat ALS, Central and Southern Ohio Chapter.
